I would consider paying for an upgrade but it would have to be pretty substantial and some long-time bugs would need to be fixed.

Considering the cheap price of GLBasic compared to some other solutions out there, I for one don't mind paying an upgrade price. For a one man product, GLBasic is amazing in what it lets you do.
The fact you can have one source file compile to run on vastly different systems is amazing!
Dev hardware is not cheap either!

BigAnd

I cant remember the last time I actually gave any money to the GLBasic cause so I would be more than happy  :booze:

i'll guess he like

hint,hint =D

Omadan

I'll pay for the improvement of Glbasic anytime. Would like it to get better and better all the time in my honest humble opinion :)

Maybe do a "devkit fund" instead of calling "chargeable upgrade"?

I quite like the feature "Free forever upgrades" couse for casual people, they may buy the tool but actually have to struggle an year or more to have time to do something with it, or they will go on developing slowly as a hobby.
Would it scare them to know that after an year the program needs payable update?

I´m just mentioning this couse some couple years ago I bought a new drawing tool, it costed 100$, still didn´t have time to use it. But 1 month after I got it, they released an upgraded version on the same price and wanted another 65$ for upgrading. To this day, they released 4 upgrades each charging the same thing. Before that, they had never released any upgrades at all.
Of course I didn´t upgrade in the first place. I even sent an email to them about the 1 month new version release to see if I at least could pay less. To get things worse, this first new update made the program run properly on win7, which my version struggles a little and such was not described on their product descprition.

Back on the point, I find the  "Free forever upgrades" something really special.
I will sure help you out anyway needed or anyway you choose.
Heck, I wish the 100$ I used to buy that paint program would have gone your way.

Paying for upgrades is ok, although paying for updates is not good. Trouble is there can be a fine line between the two of them, what one company classes as an upgrade others class as a update & vice-versa. Some of the developers sadly like to charge for what is basically bug fixes & occasionally add a new feature (normally minor) to justify it.

I have to take my hat off to Gernot, Developing a game/app with for 1 platform has it's challenges, Developing an App which allows you to create your own games/apps on so many platforms is a task that I would not even like to put into words as would fail to do it justice.  :nw:

I wrote a simple compiler years ago back in the 8bit days, but back then the platform was well defined/documented etc. Keeping track of what Apple/Google/HP etc have changed or updated is to me a logistical nightmare. Sure there might be the odd command in GLB that plays up on a certain platform, but in reality are you surprised?, I'm not.

Lee

Forgot to add that not only Gernot but all others that have helped in the creation of GLBasic "Thank You"
"Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?"
- "These go to eleven."

As a matter of fact that I have to get a new Mac Mini, I fear this will be the first time that I have to charge a bit for an upgrade of a new GLBasic version. I'm not planning large fees and I hope to be able to leave purchases within the last 12 months for free. But before you boil me in hot oil, wait until I have more detailed thoughts...

Seriously, with all the work you've put in since I bought my license it would make me feel guilty if you didn't ask for some extra for an upgrade.

Leginus

I think a fee even dare I say  yearly fee is a good way forward.
Got to keep your enthusiasm up and nobody can do it for free forever. Kids to feed and all that :)
